Mark Choate — Founder
Mark Choate has represented injured Alaskans and the families of those wrongfully killed since 1980, when he founded Choate Law Firm in downtown Juneau. He earned his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 1980 and is a graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, the country's best-known intensive program for plaintiff trial advocacy. Over four decades he has tried hundreds of cases to Alaska juries — serious injury, wrongful death, and maritime and commercial fishing cases under the Jones Act — earning the firm its reputation as one of the very few plaintiff trial firms headquartered in Southeast Alaska.

How we work
We are a small firm by design — every case is prepared for trial by the attorneys themselves. Insurers evaluate a claim differently when the lawyers on the other side actually try cases. We take a limited number of serious matters, advance the case costs, and work on a contingency fee: if we recover nothing, you owe no attorney fee. Calls are answered promptly, and you will always know which attorney is handling your case — because you'll be talking to him.
Frequently asked questions
Which attorney will handle my case? One of the two attorneys on this page — directly. We don't hand cases to case managers.
Do you only take Alaska cases? Alaska is our home and focus. Between them our attorneys are also licensed in Washington, California, Hawaii, and New York (specific jurisdiction varies by attorney).
What does a consultation cost? Nothing. The consultation is free, and we take cases on a contingency fee — no fee unless we recover for you.
Where are you located? 424 North Franklin Street in downtown Juneau, serving clients throughout Alaska by phone, video, or in person.
